A practical guide to organizing and updating your wardrobe according to the season, taking advantage of the clothes you already own
I have decided to start my capsule wardrobe, and now that the season has changed, I feel that it is the perfect time to do it. I live in Colorado, where temperatures can reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer and drop to below zero in the winter.
My closet is quite small, so in the spring I store my winter clothes in duffle bags, which I place in a walk-in closet or in a storage space we have for linens, travel gear, decorations, and other household items. Fall, for me, is the ideal time to take out the winter clothes and put away the summer clothes. Because of that, I have decided to update my wardrobe for the new season.
Step 1: Organize and Make Space
I started by removing summer pieces to make room in my closet. Here are some of the items I removed:
Summer colored skirts
Short skirts in soft fabrics and floral prints
Blouses with floral prints in summer hues
Sleeveless tops
Lightweight pants with bold prints
Shorts
3/4 length jeans or fisherman-style jeans
T-shirts with summer prints or seasonal images
If it doesn’t snow where you live, you can still opt for seasonal colors and rotate your outfits for more varied looks. If you’re traveling to cold places, those summer pieces are the ones you should always keep stored away.
Step 2: Identify the Pieces That Are Not Rotating
Some of the pieces that I will not rotate are:
– T-shirts that I wear to the store
– Leggings
– Long jeans
Step 3: Define the Concept of Your Capsule Wardrobe
The concept I want for my capsule wardrobe is to use neutral pieces that I can wear most of the year, combining them with clothes with prints or seasonal colors. This way, I can create more outfit combinations with what I already have in my closet.
To start my capsule wardrobe, I have selected two white bodysuits that are extremely comfortable: one with short sleeves and one with long sleeves. If you have a long torso like me, I recommend this type of bodysuit. The fabric is light so I can wear it from fall to spring.
You can get the short-sleeved bodysuit from MangoPop here.
Now that I’ve organized my closet, I’m ready to enjoy the new season with a renewed and versatile style!
Now that I have an idea of what I want, I’m going to start deciding which items I’m going to buy on Amazon to expand my capsule closet.
