Baby & Toddler Milestones: Toys, Activities, and Tips for Skill Development

As a mom of two, I’ve learned that every stage of development comes with its own milestones. From rolling over to tracing letters, intentional play can help children grow while keeping learning fun. The right tools and activities can make a real difference, and I love sharing what works for us with other parents.

Supporting Core Strength for Babies

My baby is receiving physical therapy, and a major focus is building core strength. He’s getting so close to rolling over! At home, we support these milestones with activities that encourage him to find and grab his feet and tummy time on a balance ball to improve stability.

These simple exercises help him develop the muscles he needs while keeping playtime engaging and fun.

Tracing and Fine Motor Skills for Toddlers

With my toddler, we’re working on tracing and pre-writing skills. Using color dot markers has been a game-changer—they help him stay on the path, improve control, and practice early writing.

We also incorporate sensory activities, like picking up objects with tweezers or playing with magic sand, to strengthen fingers and fine motor coordination. These activities make learning hands-on and interactive.

Activities That Support Both Kids

Sometimes I look for activities that can engage both my baby and toddler simultaneously. Reading books together, pointing out letters and colors, or exploring textures are simple ways to support early learning and milestone progress for both children.

These shared moments also strengthen the parent-child bond while giving each child age-appropriate developmental support.

My Favorite Tools and Toys for Milestone Progress

From tummy time mats to tracing markers, I’ve tried and tested a variety of toys and activities that actually help babies and toddlers make progress toward their milestones. I share honest reviews so parents can make informed decisions about what to use for skill-building and milestone development.
